Facebook Inc. launched a new Android app for its social media service that runs faster and uses less data in locations with spotty connections.

CNN Money said in its report, the app is called Facebook Lite which is now available in Asian countries and will soon make its debut on some parts of Europe, Latin America and Africa. This announcement was made by the Facebook Lite Product Manager Vijay Shankar in an interview. People still use 2G network in most of the said countries, which have less power and much slower than the 4G networks in many developed regions.

Facebook Inc wants to provide an option for those who are having such restrictions so they can still experience Facebook at the fullest.

The app use less than 50 percent of a data's megabyte to restrict data rate and usage for those in rising markets. At the same time, it supports Facebook's notifications, status updates, News Feed and images, but it does not support advanced location services and videos.

WCVB reported the latest news about the famous social networking site that it no longer automatically share and tracks users' location data in its Messanger app. Users now have to use a series of steps so that they can send their location to someone.

It is said that in order to share where they are, users need to tap on the "More" button on the lower right corner of a chat window and then choose "Location." User can also select to share a map of where they are or a more specific location like theatre, restaurant or a mall, through tapping "Send." To be safe, users can open the "Settings tab" in the Android app and completely disable location.

Tech 2 reported that Facebook utilizes Nokia HERE for Android devices and Apple Maps for iOS devices. The truth is, the Messenger does not get location details about the users at all, unless they enable location services on their phone for the application.

As for the Facebook Lite, it is now reportedly part of the globe's largest social media network's development into the growing markets. In the earlier part of this year, Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg announced Internet.org, a platform created by six technology partners to connect 4.5 billion people with no present access to the Web, according to the report of Tech 2.
