Ex-Formula 1 Boss Sues Google for Not Removing News of the World Images

Max Mosley, former Formula 1 executive, files a lawsuit in London against Google for continuing to publish photos of him at a sex party.

The 74-year-old former Formula 1 boss has taken legal actions toward Google, Inc. for breaching the Data Protection Act and mis-using private data. The internet firm has not removed from public access pictures of him with prostitutes from the tabloid News of the World.

"You have to draw the line somewhere and if Google won't do it, which they should, then the courts will have to act," he stated.

Mosley had won in a breach of privacy case against the now-defunct tabloid in 2008 for publishing a Nazi-themed 'orgy' story together with a video where he received £60,000 or US$ 101,800.

According to the court ruling in 2008, the theme was a work of fiction and the story is not within public interest.

Mosley had also won similar cases against the internet giant in German and French courts which Google is appealing for at the moment.

The internet firm is currently struggling with several privacy concerns in Europe after a ruling from the European Union decided to have the world's largest search provider delete some personal information from search results implying the new 'right to be forgotten.'

The company claimed that it does not consider itself as a 'publisher' and is reluctant to filter data because it fears that some may see the act as policing the worldwide web.

"It could mean that internet providers are required to monitor even the smallest components of content they transmit or store for their users. We believe this is contrary to European law," a Google spokesman said.

However, Mosley insisted that Europe's justice system should push Google to abide by the law rather than follow rules it made itself.
