Kyrie Irving's injury just got worse. And it seems to be the Cavs' championship chances went downhill as well.

Irving fractured his left kneecap during overtime in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors Thursday night and has to undergo season-ending surgery to repair it.

Now, literally, that's one unlucky break.

While the mishap definitely affected the emotions of the All-Star point guard, who said he'd will himself to play at this stage, it could potentially hurt more the confidence of the underdog Cavaliers team. Playing in the championship series without injured starters Kevin Love and Anderson Varejão, the Cavs will now have to move on short of a third starter in Irving.

Irving will be out three to four months to completely recover from the surgery, as per Bleacher Report's Joseph Zucker. That would make the loss somehow lighter for the Cavs as they can expect the 2011 top pick to return before the 2015-2016 regular season begins in October. With Kevin Love also reportedly adamant on staying put in Cleveland, they have the potential to go back in the Finals again next year.

But, the Cavs aren't focused on that right now.

Fortunately, not all is doomed for Cleveland, who is trying to end a half decade of sports championship drought, as they still have the best player in the face of the planet. You simply can't count out a team with LeBron James at the helm.

The King told ESPN that the Cavs will be ready to face the Warriors with the available personnel they had on hand. James added that while they want to be healthy, in good rhythm, and lucky at this point of the postseason, circumstances have not been on their side and they will have to live with that.

"But I haven't gotten discouraged." Those were powerful words from LeBron that his remaining teammates could hold on to.

Dime Magazine's Jack Winter reported an increasing tension between Irving's dad and the Cavs organization because of the way the 23-yeard-old seemed to be "forced" by coaches and teammates to play in the Finals instead of resting the bum knee to avoid any complications.

It took only one game to prove his father was right. Apparently, Dad Drederick knew all along what was best for his son.
