Maroon 5 has recently released the video for their new single, "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like A Motherfucker." It has already caught lots of attention, such that it already caught over 1.5 million views on YouTube.
With that number of views, one might like to see why it has caught that much attention, but excited viewers will now find this image on YouTube when searching for the Maroon 5 video:

The "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like A Motherfucker" video was uploaded via Maroon 5's official YouTube account and not Vevo. Apparently, that isn't allowed as the band's own label, Universal Music Group, pulled the video as soon as it was put up and they have replaced it with a message explaining of a copyright claim, according to TechDirt.
Billboard reported that the Maroon 5 video was pulled from YouTube because of an incorrect overlay.
"It has to do with Vevo, the music video platform co-owned by UMG and Sony Music. The company serves as the first-stop destination for both majors' music videos, drawing 41.5 million viewers monthly (as of last November," UMG stated.
"Vevo appearances on YouTube function by overlaying the traditional player with Vevo's own. Why? So stakeholders can make more money. Vevo pulls much better ad rates than YouTube because of its popularity (artists' channels make strong appearances throughout YouTube's top most-subscribed channels http://vidstatsx.com/youtube-top-100-most-subscribed-channels) and cultural focus."
The incorrect overlay of the song caused UMG's automatic content filter to pick it up, hence the pulling of the video from the video website, according to a source knowledgeable of the situation.
Apart from the record label's pulling of the video, the song itself reportedly became controversial for a number of reasons:
First, the title contains explicit language.
Second, the content of the video includes the nude back of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.
Meanwhile, the song's Vevo video remains up, according to The Inquisitr.
The "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like a Motherfucker" video will reportedly be uploaded back to YouTube after the problem is fixed. The 1.4 million hits will be retained as well.
Vevo, on the other hand, is reportedly planning to expand.
"My god, this is one of the leading video assets on the planet and there is so much more than we can do with it," Vevo's new CEO Eric Huggers told Billboard early May.
The "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like a Motherfucker" video copyright issue is only one among a streak of badluck for the band's lead singer.
Adam Levine's vocal chords reportedly became too sore for a Maroon 5 concert in Liverpool so the band had to cancel their gig.
