Andrew Lloyd Webber is taking legal action against the promoter of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' US tour Michael Cohl for cancelling its New Orleans debut just days before said production. The writer still hasn't forgiven the action after two months since the cancellation.
Really Useful Group, Andrew Lloyd Webber's London-based company is suing the US promoter as well as his company Options Clause Entertainment in order to recover the production cost of the musical.

Two months ago, Michael Cohl cancelled "Jesus Christ Superstar" just before its premier last June 9 this year. The promoter said that it was a business decision that he had to make based on the low ticket sales in New Orleans.
The fact that the musical was star-studded - the cast included Incubus' Brandon Boyd, Destiny's Child 's Michelle Williams, Sex Pistol's John Lydon and N'SYNC's JC Chasez - didn't help the ticket sales.
Really Useful Group claimed that they have worked hard to find a way for legalities not to be involved in the settlement of the cost that resulted from the cancellation, blaming everything on Michael Cohl and OCE.
The London company states that they see no other option other than to take legal means in order for them to be paid back.
Michael Cohl, also the producer of 'Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark', released a statement to Billboard, saying, "OCE is disappointed that RUG chose to misrepresent the facts and litigate issues that should have been resolved amicably. The fact is that the show did not sell. We look forward to our day in court."
On the other hand, RUG's chief executive Barney Wragg refuted Michael Cohl's statement, arguing that the previous 'Jesus Christ Superstar' productions had been a success and even had to extend the tour for an Australia leg.
Wragg also expressed his disappointment over the let down, considering the number of people who worked and looked forward to the revival's debut.
There have been no information released as to when the court procedures would be held.
