Melissa McCarthy comes out on top as her comedy "SPY" annihilates rivals "Entourage" and "Insidious Chapter 3" during the weekend box office.

Leading with $30 million, the Kevin Feig-helmed comedy won the hearts of the US box office last weekend. Along with top billed Melissa McCarthy, the spy comedy starred Jason Statham, Jude Law and Rose Byrne. Despite failing to reach the original goal of $35 million, Ace Showbiz did report that movies made by the McCarthy-Feig partnership do have long tails, and will rake in more in the coming weeks. Business Standard also shared that the movie drew in an unexpected crowd, 60 percent of which were females over 25 years old.

The Dwayne Johnson-starred disaster movie "San Andreas" comes in at a close second, with an estimated $26.4 million, putting it a few millions away from $100 million just after 10 days in theaters. The horror threequel "Insidious Chapter 3" totaled with $23 million, which is still well above the first "Insidious" movie that raked in $13.3 million with its debut.

The HBO series-turned-movie "Entourage" landed only $10.4 million during the weekend, with what Flicksided reports as a cooling off of a Wednesday opening that garnered the bro movie $17.8 million, getting a total of $28.2 million.

Finally, capping off the top five is "Mad Max: Fury Road," receiving $7.97 million on its fourth week. Along with "San Andreas," "Fury road" beat "Pitch Perfect 2," allowing the post-apocalyptic movie to hit the $300 million mark in the global market.

"SPY" leading the pack was an unexpected outcome for this week's box office, but it just shows that there is an untapped market when it comes to movies that have ladies as the stars. Just goes to show that leading ladies in movies need not be of the same cut and figure, and that there is a wide variety of people who can make a dent in the Showbiz industry.
