Mary Ellen Trainor Dead Of Pancreatic Cancer At 62

Mary Ellen Trainor, an actress famous for her role as Mrs. Walsh in the iconic film "The Goonies" in 1985, died at the age of 62 in her Montecito, California home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Trainor's death was announced by Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, adding that her lifelong friend died after complications from pancreatic cancer on May 20. Both women met and graduated from San Diego State University.

Apart from "The Goonies," Trainor also appeared in all four "Lethal Weapon" films, where she played police psychiatrist Stephanie Wood. She also appeared in "Back to the Future Part II," "Death Becomes Her," and "Forrest Gump." 

In the '80s, her films included "Ghostbusters II" in 1989, "Action Jackson" and "Die Hard" in 1988.

Her '90s films include "Grand Canyon" in 1991, "Little Giants" in 1994, "Congo" in 1995 and "Executive Decision" in 1996." 

Her films in the millennial generation are "Amy's Orgasm" in 2001, "Moonlight Mile" 2002 and "Freaky Friday" in 2003.

On television, her regular roles were on Fox sitcom's "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," ABC's drama "Relativity", as well as "Roswell," where she played Diane Evans.

She was known as "Mare: to family and friends.

During her younger years, Trainor reportedly wanted to work in news originally. Born in San Francisco, she was able to study broadcast journalism at the San Diego State University.

While attending the institution, the manager of radio station KSDO at the time discovered her, turning her into a high-profile host.

She then became station editor at KCBS-TV and production assistant in Los Angeles, which brought her to become an assistant for a producer on "1941," written by her future husband, Oscar winner and director Robert Zemeckis.

The former couple married in 1980, after which Trainor appeared in several Zemeckis films before divorcing in 2000.

At actor Michael Douglas's suggestion, she made her big-screen debut with her role as Elaine in "Romancing the Stone" in 1984.

Trainor is reportedly survived by her son Alex, mother Jane and siblings Ned, Jack, Barbara and Carolyn.

Trainor's memorial will be held at 11 a.m. on June 19. This weekend, there will also be a service at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Montecito, reported the Web site Xpose.ie.

The family announced that they would appreciate it if fans' donations were instead given to the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation and The Wounded Warrior Project.

Trainor had been passionate about different causes such as cancer research as well as safe water and disaster relief for developing countries, reported The Sydney Morning Herald.
