According to Sichuan Provincial Flood Control Office, Sichuan Province has been under attack by rainstorms since July 8th. At press time of 8 a.m. on July 9th, there are seven counties that have received more than 200 mm of precipitation; four counties have received more than 300 mm of precipitation; three counties received 400 mm of precipitation and Dujiangyan County has received 554.1 mm of precipitation so far.
Three bridges had collapsed in China's Sichuan province after severe rainstorms battered the region, including some quake-stricken areas, local authorities said. According to witnesses, when one of the bridges collapsed, three sedans and a mini van fell into the river. By 12 p.m. three people have been rescued from the river.
Downpours also submerged quake-razed ruins in Beichuan County. Now, the deepest point in Beichuan has reached to 7 meters. An 8.0-magnitude earthquake hit Beichuan in May 2008, leaving 20,000 people dead or missing.
Because of rainstorm-triggered floods, the traffic in many townships of the quake-hit counties of Wenchuan, Beichuan, and Lushan were cut off on Tuesday. Floods also caused a landslide in the village of Shilibei.
What's more, the storm has also caused trains running on the Baoji-Chengdu Railway to be delayed or rerouted. On 9th, 1717 (from Hohhot to Chengdu), K205 (from Qingdao to Chengdu), K861 (from Hankou to Chengdu), K1057 (from Xining to Chengdu) and K879 (from Xi'an to Chengdu) have been delayed in different degrees. Currently, Chengdu Railway Bureau has opened more windows to refund tickets for passengers.
