iOS 9 Features: New Update Will App To App Linking More Privacy Friendly For Users

(Photo : Reuters) The latest Apple leak suggests that the iPad Pro and the new iPhone release date is near.

With a bevy of new iOS 9 features, Apple is hoping that it will be able to engage more developers that seemed to have shifted sides after Twitter infamously managed to use the URL scheme to sneak into the iPhone and reveal the apps being used by the owner.

Just last year, Twitter shocked developers across the globe by using the URL scheme to smartly sneak into their iPhones and discover important data like the apps that they use; however, this was a big blow on Apple's image as it lured away the developers.

According to a report on Tech Crunch, Apple has decided to counteract the move and is planning to introduce a new alternative, which is called the Universal Links. With this new feature in the iOS 9, those wanting to access data within the apps will be directed towards it, straight away with the standard URL link.

The big advantage of this alternative method is that users will no longer have privacy issues. This is because the originating app will give the relevant data without actually giving information on, whether or not, the destination app is installed.

Also, the links will now open in the correct app each time they are accessed. This is not the pattern that was followed in the URL scheme, where any app could adapt the other and display it. In cases where the app is not installed, the Universal Links will redirect it to the companion app in Apple's Safari, and depending on the details programed by the developer, it will also prompt an app install. This makes it easier for the users as well. Basically, with this feature, users will be able to decide how much of the website should be revealed to the app.

In regular cases, when developers set up Universal Links, they will also have to make a special json file that will be available on the website server; however, for the iOS 9, Apple is planning to simplify matters by eliminating this requirement.

Other features to be included in this operating system include 1080p display, 240fps and flash, as is confirmed on Motoring Crunch.
