Just when it seemed over for the Chinese women's football team campaign, Wang Lisi came in with an opportune stoppage time goal to lift her team to a 1-0 victory over Group A opponent Netherlands at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

Wang saved the day for the Steel Roses, who improved their standing to 1-1 at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup after their disappointing tournament opener loss with a last-gasp penalty goal to host country Canada. According to CNN, this also marks China's first World Cup win since beating Denmark, 3-2, in 2007 when the country hosted the global competition.

According to the Edmonton Sun play report, Wang went after a long ball from fellow midfielder Tan Ruyin at the 91st minute of the stoppage time. After taking possession, she broke through the defense of Merel Van Dongen and gently stabbed onto the low corner of the goal. The the ball rolled right past keeper Sari Van Veenendaal, who looked uncertain but went out to challenge the play. The Dutch goal defender made eight saves in the game prior to getting caught too far out against Wang on the play.

China coach Hao Wei lauded the efforts of his young team saying they did an excellent job performing under pressure. He also told Yahoo Sports! that the team could have scored more and played more efficient, but still praised his players for sticking together and executing their game plan until the last minute.

China played aggressively during the match holding possession for 61% and 59% for the first and second half, respectively. They also fired 27 shot attempts at the Dutch net before finding success with the midfielder's game winner.

Meanwhile, Netherlands coach Roger Reijner said they were not surprised with China's attack, having scouted and studied enough of their rival's games. However, he hoped his squad could have dominated and controlled the second half more.

The top two teams of each Group automatically advance to the Round of 16 of the tournament. China is tied with the Netherlands with three points apiece behind Canada's four points in Group A. They will meet New Zealand in their last match of group competition.
