Chinese Cortana In Windows Phone 8.1 Update

Windows Phone 8.1 update will feature a Chinese-speaking Cortana
Microsoft has announced Windows Phone 8.1 updates, which include features that will help people in China use Cortana, the company's voice-activated smartphone assistant. It also presented a localized version for users in the United Kingdom.
At the same time, Cortana in an earlier "alpha" version will also be available for users in Canada, Australia and India.

On Wednesday, the software giant launched Cortana in beta version as part of the new functions of a Windows Phone 8.1 update. It will be nicknamed "Xiao Na," which means "little" in Mandarin.
The localized Chinese version will contain more than just language translation. Microsoft redesigned the "halo" icon of Cortana to fit the local culture. "Xiao Na" could come in different visual appearances, sound and animation. However, the alternate form will still be optional.
The smartphone assistant will speak Mandarin and her notifications will contain features that will be more attuned to the regionm, such as weather alerts that include updates on air quality and information on driving restrictions.
Microsoft's localized Siri version will also have upgrades including in-car Bluetooth system integration, snooze time customization and "chitchats" with impressions.
According to the company, the Windows Phone 8.1 update will be introduced to developers this week and to the users for the coming months.
The update will be packed with new security functions such as securied data transfer using VPN in public Wi-Fi hotspots, and the security software Sandbox, Windows Phone manager Joe Belfiore noted.
Other features include a live tile that will highlight new applications available on the Windows Phone Store on the start screen and "Live Folders" that will allow application and update organization.
Xbox Music App will also contain upogrades, Belfiore added.
Analyst Wang Jingwen said that the arrival of Cortana in China could help Microsoft present awareness about the Windows Phone operating system to the public, since the brand has struggled to keep up with its competitors iOS and Android.
