The Korean Wave continues to enjoy a huge following in Asia, and what country better boosts the figures than China. With more than a billion in population, the mainland alone makes for a powerful driving force in the already booming popularity of Hallyu stars. As an additional testament to their charm and appeal, South Korean celebrities are now going neck and neck against each other in the number of followers on Weibo, China's largest social media Web site.

Soompi reported that Lee Min-ho is the overall top-grosser among singers and actors when it comes to Weibo followers. Psy, who ruled the list for a certain period, was ultimately surpassed by "The Heirs" actor since opening his account. As of June 2015, KDrama Stars cited Lee Min-ho's followers at more than 27 million. In fact, he achieved this feat in just around four months. Meanwhile, Psy remained at the second spot despite a significant loss of more than 74,000 followers in the past months.
Securing a top rank in the hearts of Weibo users is the equally handsome Jang Geun-suk. His figures may be far from the first two stars at 18 million, but a steady addition of followers since January keeps his standing still on the high. Closing in at 16.5 million followers is singer-actor Lee Joon-gi, whose role in the 2005 film "The King and the Clown" earned him significant attention. Fans are in for more treat with his upcoming period drama series, "Scholar Who Walks the Night." Meanwhile, the phenomenal TV series "My Love from the Star" paved the way for Kim Soo-hyun's stardom in China. His Weibo followers are now at 10.3 million and are expected to increase as "The Producers" becomes a hit among advertisers.
Female Korean stars are also making waves in China's widely used microblogging site. Actress Park Shin-hye also enjoys the popularity of "The Heirs" in China, landing her a top spot among Hallyu stars with the most Weibo followers. The 2013 drama's appeal helped her gain 8.7 million fans on the social media site. Park Min-young, who also starred alongside Lee Min-ho in "City Hunter," has 5.3 million followers.
While the "Boys Over Flowers" breakout actor seems immovable in his number one spot among Korean stars, Drama Fever reported that Lee Min-ho is just at number 33 in the entire Weibo popularity list. Nonetheless, his successful tour in China and his recent casting in the Korea-China co-production of "Bounty Hunters" are expected to set push his Weibo numbers on full throttle.
