Chinese buyers spent $12.3 billion on U.S. real estate last year

According to National Association of Realtors 2013 Profile of International Home Buying Activity, in the last year, Chinese buyers spent up to $12.3 billion on U.S. real estate. Chinese buyers are only after Canadian in purchasing house in the United Stated. However, Chinese buyers tended to purchase property in the upper price ranges with a median price of $425,000. And this number ranks the first among all the foreign buyers. In addition, nearly 70 percent of those pricey Chinese deals were made in all cash.

CNN reported on July 8th that according to data from National Association of Realtors, in the past year by March 31st, foreigners from 68 countries and regions all over the world spent $68.2 billion on buying houses in America. Among them, Canadians come to the largest numbers. Chinese buyers accounted for 12 percent of the $68.2 billion. But it's worth to mention that Chinese only accounted for 5% in 2007. Buyers from Mexico, India and the United Kingdom took the third, forth and fifth places. In foreigners' point, the United States is an ideal place for children's education and also investigation.
At a median price of $425,000, the Chinese, who spent nearly $425,000 on US real estate last year, are also buying more expensive homes than other foreign buyers, who spent a median of $276,000. Moreover nearly 70 percent Chinese buyers paid their homes in cash.
In California, Chinese brought more than half of the houses that were sold to foreigners. According to Sally Forster Jones, an agent in an international real estate company of Los Angeles said Chinese are snapping up many of the trophy properties on Los Angeles's Westside. She estimates that she's sold about 10 multimillion-dollar homes to Chinese buyers over the past 12 months. Most of her Chinese clients are wealthy industrialists or real estate tycoons, many of whom spend less than half a year in US. "Some have children going to school in Los Angeles and use the homes as residences for them or as a place to stay at when they visit their kids." Jones added.
