The Dallas Mavericks, not the San Antonio Spurs, are allegedly the leading contenders to acquire the services of Portland Trailblazers All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge, according to Bleacher Report's Ric Bucher.

Bucher noted that the things that were driving Aldridge to leave $27 million, the difference between the maximum the Blazers can offer him from the rest of the NBA teams as per league CBA, has something to do with coming home, appreciation, and a better chance at the NBA championship.
Aldridge is from Dallas, and he allegedly wanted to come home, just like what LeBron James did last season, and finish his career close to family and friends. Meanwhile, Portland is starting to favor point guard Damian Lillard as its main man, and he allegedly wanted no part of that as well. Finally, he had led the Blazers to the playoffs five times and was able to advance past round one just once. Aldridge was said to be sick and tired of losing and that he feared missing the prime of his playing years without a title to keep.
And he thinks the Mavericks can provide him with all those three.
For sure, San Antonio would give him a much better chance at having a ring, or multiple rings, and it is still in Texas, but would he be the Spurs' main man? That's the question that makes the Mavericks his speculated preferred destination.
As for the Mavs, they are keen at landing any of the many prized free agents this summer, as per The Dallas Morning News. They had also been involved in rumors about acquiring DeAndre Jordan from the Los Angeles Clippers. But, according to the article, their main target is Aldridge.
Dallas owner Mark Cuban is not known to rebuild via the lottery, so getting Aldridge will make the team an appealing destination for other superstar players who want a better crack at the title.
However, SB Nation quenched all speculations as it reported that any rumor regarding Aldridge should be taken with a grain of salt as it is too early to project the possible destinations of the incoming free agents this July. Until the clock hits midnight that day, no NBA team could give an offer to any free agent player, so Blazers' fans should sit down, relax, and not panic.
