Chinese singer and actress Li Bingbing was recently seen in Hong Kong promoting the newest tourist attraction in China, the "New Titanic."

The opening will not be until 2017, but organizers are going full steam ahead in promoting "New Titanic," a full-sized replica of the British ship that sank more than a hundred years ago. In the replica, guests will be able to experience a simulation of how the ship sank and how it hit the iceberg, with light and sound effects to complete the experience, as reported by CRI Online.

Held in Hong Kong, the launch was well attended by the press and a number of celebrities, such as Li Bingbing and Julian Cheung. China Entertainment News reported that while at the event, the Li Bingbing praised Cheung and his wife, Anita Yuen. The "Transformers: Age of Extinction" star even recalled how she collaborated with Yuen back in the Shanghai Theater Academy, where Yuen attended to further her acting skills despite already being popular. She shareed how after choosing the class where Li was attending, they were assigned to do a scene with Yuen.

Despite not being open yet, it has already attracted a lot of controversies in its wake, saying that it is being done in poor taste. Liverpool Echo reported that John Wilson, the CEO of the Liverpool Seafarers' Centre, claims that though there is nothing wrong with enterprising the tragedy as done by countless other endeavors, replicating the sinking of the ship may not sit well to those who lost their loved ones in the disaster.

However, it may do well that Bernard Hill, the actor who played the captain in the film adaptation back in 1997, is backing the project and sees nothing wrong with the motives of the project, saying it will not belittle the disaster.

The ship is not slated to open until 2017, but reports said that tickets for the grand opening has already been sold out for months. Whether it is in good taste or not, the "New Titanic" will obviously be a hit not just for the Chinese people but presumably the whole world as well.
