Miley Cyrus certainly has a worldwide effect with whatever she chooses to do. Her latest movement on showing off her armpit hair has surprisingly made its way to China. Chinese feminists have now taken part in the armpit hair movement.
Xiao Meili is the latest internet celebrity who has joined in on Miley's armpit hair movement. The 25-year old feminist posted a photo of her hairy underarm on her Weibo profile, which is the China counterpart of Facebook. According to Xiao, this was a movement in the fight for gender equality.

A number of Chinese feminists have taken part in the Weibo movement. Six winners from the participants will be chosen. The prizes include a pedestal urinal, vibrators, and condoms.
"Women should have the right to decide how to deal with their bodies, including small details like armpit hair," stated Xiao in an exclusive report by CNN. "You can choose to shave it, but you shouldn't be forced to do so under the pressure of stereotypes."
It wasn't until 20 years ago when Americans had influenced Chinese women into shaving their armpits. Xiao's movement comes not only after Miley Cyrus, but Jemima Kirke as well. Kirke has openly shared photos of her hairy armpits on Instagram.
Jemima Kirke has also been quite open with her hairy armpits especially during red carpet events. Kirke had recently walked the red carpet of the CFDA Awards with her unshaven underarms as the main attraction.
While Miley, Xiao, and Jemima have shown off their unshaven underarms in the fight for gender equality, beauty editor Maria Del Russo claims it is also an expression of identity.
"I think the reason more and more women are using social media to show off their body hair choices is connectedness. Since the idea of women having body hair is not considered the 'norm,' women who feel that it is their norm are likely attempting to make connections with other women who feel the same way," stated Del Russo in a report MLive.
So what is the take-away from this hairy trend? Women decide everything about their body, whether it involves armpit hair or hair elsewhere - it is her business alone. For one, it is just hair.
