New Sacramento Kings' head coach George Karl is reportedly adamant in getting his former starting point guard Ty Lawson from the Denver Nuggets, as per HNGN.

With the Nuggets' latest hiring of Mike Malone, the 64-year-old Karl is well aware that the man he replaced in Sacramento is more of a slow-down, half-court set type of coach. And he also knows that a slow-paced game is something that would not be interesting or rewarding for his former player. Not to mention that Lawson's foremost skill and offensive weapon, his speed, will not be maximized in a rigid style of offense.

In reality, the 5-foot-11 former North Carolina Tar Heel had long been the subject of trade rumors. His name has time and again been linked to other NBA teams such as the Boston Celtics, the Dallas Mavericks, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Denver is planning on having a major roster overhaul and was actually trying to deal Lawson for a long time but there had been no suitors so far.

Bleacher Report's Andrew Gould hinted that there must be something about the point guard that makes teams reluctant to trade for him. He hinted that it must be his "leadership qualities," which is said to be not at par with the other elite floor generals in the league such as Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, and John Wall.

An article at Upside Motor said that "Lawson is a borderline All-Star," which means he is not yet tested when it comes to big-time games. It was also speculated in the same article that the Nuggets are trying to package Lawson with their no. 7 pick to trade for the Knicks' no. 4 pick in order to draft Emmanuel Mudiay, but there had been no clear conclusions yet.

If Malone is intent on continuing with his slow-styled gameplan, then keeping Lawson would not make any sense. As just mentioned, playing Lawson in a half-court set would essentially impede his game.

Meanwhile, Karl is already familiar with Lawson and he is reportedly excited about the possibility of partnering him with center DeMarcus Cousins to create a potent inside-outside tandem in Sacramento.

Boogie may prefer Malone's direct post-up plays, but he can also handle the ball very well for a big man. This is surely a plus if you have a spitfire playmaker like Lawson in your lineup.
