After one year and a half of being together, couple Charlize Theron and Sean Penn broke it off, thus ending a year and a half-long relationship.

The gorgeous couple has walked various red carpets together, most recently at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The couple also went down red carpets together for various "Mad Max: Fury Road" screenings, where Theron recently starred in. Ironically, Us Magazine reported that the 39-year old actress shared in an interview that working with her then-fiancé on the film "The Last Face" was not particularly easy, but despite differences, they did manage to prioritize each other.

The ex-couple knew each other for quite a long time before getting together, and only got engaged December of last year when they went for a holiday in Paris. Coincidentally, it was also a trip to France that made the relationship take a turn for the worst, as CBS News reported that it was after their visit to the French Riviera for the Cannes Film Festival that the "Prometheus" star decided to call it quits.

Prior to news of their breakup, the two have done numerous interviews opening up that they are both open to getting married. E! Online reported that Penn recently listed his Malibu estate for a whopping $6.5 million and that the two were seen house shopping just last February.

Even though Charlize Theron sees marriage as a very strange concept, she was very happy that she found something real and kept it sacred between them. Penn, on the other hand, used to be married to Madonna which was followed by a second marriage to Robin Wright, but he is very open to getting married again. All of that is in the past now, but it is not a new thing for Hollywood couples to get back together after reportedly breaking it off; and since they have a structured background as friends, this relationship is not an exception.
