Google News: Google’s Deepmind AI Teaching Machines To Understand Human Languages

Google

(Photo : Reuters) Google and Facebook have revealed a set of images that have been developed by the neural network of a computing machine, which is quite similar to the end result of a machine that is dreaming.

In what could be termed as one of the biggest developments in the domain of Artificial Intelligence machines, Google's Deepmind AI teaching technique is using newspaper articles to help machines learn and understand the human languages.

According to Technology Review, the domain of Artificial Intelligence is undergoing a major transformation as experts are now implementing a new technique called the deep learning method. However, there is still a lack of effort on the natural language processing front that prevents the computers from learning the human language and using it. But, thanks to the efforts of Google, this is all set to change.

Google Deepmind in London has found a credible source of content to teach the machines to read in the form of articles published by CNN and Daily Mail on their online portal. The mere volume of these files is an advantage for the machines giving them ample examples to learn from. Experts are saying this has been majorly possible due to the fact that scientists have developed new techniques to train networks with multiple layers. Thanks to these new methods, it has now become possible to create program sequences enabling the machine to learn.

Using the articles from Daily Mail and CNN, scientists have reportedly been able to teach a machine to read a document and understand the facts stated. With all these articles mentioning a summary of pointers in the beginning, just below the headline, it  becomes easy for the machine to grasp the key points. The ulterior motive of this activity is aimed at training machines to evolve into artificial brains that will be able to read entire documents and even respond to the questions raised in this regard.

So far, the Deepmind unit has successfully analyzed more than 400 thousand articles. The London based team is being headed by Dr Karl Moritz Hermann while the articles used for this research have been taken from April 2007 for CNN and June 2010 for MailOnline. All the articles until 2015 are being used for this project.

The research has been successful to a certain extent as the machines were able to answer basic questions.
