(Photo : Reuters) Appendicitis surgery can be avoided through prescribed antibiotics.
A study in Europe that involved 1,000 patients proved that antibiotics can cure some patients with appendicitis: An astonishing percentage of 70 spared a number of patients from undergoing surgery.
Every year, 300,000 Americans with appendicitis are rushed into emergency surgery according to The Dallas Morning News. Most are told that if the appendix is not immediately removed, it will burst - with potentially fatal consequences. Those who underwent appendectomy after trying antibiotics first suffered less complication than those who immediately had surgery.

There are no reports as to what causes the appendicitis according to Dr. James Barone, retired chairman of surgery at Stamford Hospital in Connecticut and Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx. Today, Doctors would recommend patients to take first antibiotics before resorting to appendectomy.
It is quite alarming that when a patient starts to feel real bad about their appendix, they immediately consent to appendectomy. Major surgeries do have its advantages but antibiotics can also cure without the performance of appendectomy. In some cases, there is a need for surgery and leaves the patient "worry-free" after. Some would need the surgery because they are already at risk with infection. When inflamed, there is likewise a risk for perforation.
According to Time the first to appendicitis patient and opt for surgery if the medication does not give a cure being another easier solution. Some Europeans tried to give patients a day or two of intravenous infusions at a hospital, they were sent home to take a week of pills. It was known that there are now long-acting intravenous antibiotics that may allow some patients to simply visit a doctor for a few days and then take pills to avoid hospitalization.
There were reports that patients who took prescribed antibiotics would suffer from abdominal pains from time and again as a result, the surgery. Some were cured by religiously taking the pills prescribed to them. It is clear that pills, surgery or a combination thereof are the same solutions to consider but on a case to case basis as per Doctor's findings. Years of research in finding the pills that cure appendicitis had been made and appendectomy ends up the final solution that gives patients their peace of mind.
