U.S. States to Offer Tax Free Back-To-School Supplies

Retailers in various U.S. states are preparing to handle an expected increase in buyers during a weekend tax-free holiday, which offers residents a tax break on back-to-school shopping needs for the coming school year.
School items such as supplies, computers, clothing, and other items defined by each state will be exempt from sales tax for a selected time period.

Below is the schedule of the coming tax-free weekend along with the selected purchases defined by each state: Alabama - Starting August 1 to 3, items such as clothing under $100, school supplies under $50, books under $30 and computers or computer equipment under $750 will be free of tax. Arkansas - Starting August 2 to 3, purchases such as clothing and footwear with prices at less than $100 per item, accessories with prices at less than $50 per item, and other selected school supplies will be free of tax. Connecticut - Starting August 17 to 23, purchases such as clothing and shoes under $300 per item will be free of tax. Florida - The three-day tax free holiday will start on the second week of August and items such as clothing, school supplies, book and computer equipment will be free of tax. Georgia - Starting August 9 to 10, clothing and footwear under $100 will be free of tax. Iowa - Starting August 1 to 2, items such as clothing and shoes under $100 will be free of tax. Massachusetts - Starting on the second week of August, the two-day tax free holiday will involve items such as school supplies, computers, sports equipment, health aid and beauty products. Missouri - Starting August 1 to 3, items such as clothing under $100, school supplies under $50, computer software under $350, and computers or computer equipment under $1,500 each will be free of tax. New Mexico - Starting August 2 to 4, items such as clothing and shoes under $100, school supplies under $15, computers under $1,000 and computer equipment under $500 will be free of tax. South Carolina - Starting August 2 to 4, items such as clothing, accessories, footwear, school supplies, computer and computer equipment will be free of tax. Tennessee - Starting August 1 to 3, items such as clothing under $100, school and art supplies under $100, and computers under $1, 500 will be free of tax. Oklahoma - Starting August 1 to 3, items such as clothing and shoes, which are priced under $100, will also be free of tax. Meanwhile, on Tuesday Apple launched an updated international page with details on how U.S. consumers can take advantage of the up-coming tax holidays for savings on the company's selected products.
