The Miami Dolphins and the Carolina Panthers have agreed to hold two joint practice sessions to be held at the Wofford College grounds in Spartanburg, South Carolina on August 19 to 20, as per the Dolphins' official website.

Both exercises are scheduled at 8:30 in the morning and are going to be in preparation for the teams' preseason game at the Bank of America Stadium on August 22.

The Dolphins, headed by coach Joe Philbin, will travel to Carolina for the mini-series and Panthers head coach Ron Rivera welcomed the opportunity to trade rehearsal snaps with the two-time Super Bowl champions.

Rivera said in a press release on Thursday that he has "a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Philbin, and we're excited to be working with the Dolphins."

He added that "the Dolphins do some things differently on offense, defense, and special teams so it will be an opportunity to work on all three phases of the game in controlled situations with really good tempo." The 2013 AP NFL Coach of the Year was also reportedly excited to get his players to react on different looks from the Dolphins, saying that both sessions would be quality training for the Panthers.

This is the first time that Carolina will host a joint practice since they did it with the Detroit Lions in 2000, according to CBS Miami.

The Dolphins' training camp begins on July 28 while the Panthers' will be on the 30th. The joint practice session is considered by both teams as one of their most important preparations prior to the coming season.

For Philbin, this is the first time he is participating in a joint training with the Dolphins in four years, as per ESPN.

Both teams will be led by their highly-paid quarterbacks Cam Newton and Ryan Tannehill. Newton recently signed a five-year $103.8 million contract extension with the Panthers while Tannehill also signed a six-year $96 million deal for the Dolphins.

Another interesting story about the event is the alleged bullying scandal in 2013 involving former Miami offensive lineman Jonathan Martin, who now plays for Carolina. This is the first time that Martin is going to meet his former team after the incident.

The Dolphins are in the NFL's AFC while the Panthers are in the NFC.
