Hong Kong actor Chapman To and Singapore' very own Mark Lee will be playing the main characters Ah Fatt and Tian Ba respectively. The story revolves around the two characters that portray that of men who are avid partisans of a mahjong guru.

The film will show scenes twenty years later in the life of the two men, with Mark Lee's character challenging that of Chapman To's into an ultimate showdown that would reveal secret techniques in the game.

Chow Wai Ling, the director PR and communications for Zingshot Productions, who will also work with their co-producers from Clover Films on 'King of Mahjong,' explained why the theme revolves around mahjong.

The director PR said that they wanted a theme that Asians could relate to and bring back memories for the viewers.

"We're not promoting playing mahjong per se; it's really more of a bonding moment," she added.

The producers are hoping that the family-oriented comedy film would do well in the box office despite going against big Hollywood productions. Local movies have been suffering from low ticket sales over the past years as people choose to watch western hits instead.

The producers' strategy is to use new filming styles that have never been utilized in Asian movies before. They have also revealed that the film will be shot in varying locations in Malaysia and Singapore.

'King of Mahjong' directed by Malaysian filmmaker Adrian Teh will be released early 2015.
