With great power comes great responsibility, and Tom Holland definitely has great responsibilities as he is named as the newest actor to don the red and blue suit of Spider-Man.
The 19-year-old actor from Kingston, has been selected by both Marvel and Sony to be the face of the next Spider-Man film, slated to be released in 2017. The Guardian reports that the actor is one of the six shortlisted actors considered for the role, alongside "Ender's Game" star and supposed Spidey frontrunner, Asa Butterfield.

With CNet's "Today Tomorrow" only reporting that one of his acting gigs is the tsunami movie "The Impossible" together with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts, Tom Holland is a fairly unknown name. However, Kevin Feige did say that his screen test with the other "Avengers" members turned out fantastic, which eventually made him lead the role. Some people might argue that he looks young since he is just 19 years of age; this may be true, but in just two years, when the new Spider-Man is released, he will be ready to take on the red and blue suit.
Along with Tom Holland, the two studios have selected director Jon Watts to helm the 2017 movie, who directed the movie "Cop Car," which debuted in the most recent Sundance Film Festival. Marvel reports that the upcoming "Spider-Man" director did go through numerous meetings with the execs of both Sony and Marvel before he ultimately got the gig.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man is first expected to appear in the upcoming "Captain America: Winter Soldier" due next year which will be under Marvel, but the Web-Slinger is slated to have his own movie by July 2017. Though there is still no word on the supposed "Sinister Six" movie which was supposed to follow "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," fans are just happy to see that Spider-Man is allowed to play with his "Avengers" buddies again.
