It was early in June when a report by Yahoo! Singapore confirmed that Angelababy would be cast in the film. The casting was announced on Twitter on June 4. Director Emmerich tweeted all about it.
"Just signed one of China's brightest young stars to the cast of #IndependenceDay2! Welcome Angelababy!" stated the tweet.
The film is set to be released for 2016. For now, stars are not only busy filming but promoting "Independence Day II." As for Angelababy's role, it is said that she would play the role of a fighter pilot and participate in an air combat along with the character of Liam Hemsworth.
Regarding her role, Angelababy stated she was initially worried given English was not her "first language." Thankfully, she had the likes of Hemsworth to help her out.
"I am nervous!" stated Angelababy, adding, "But I am particularly honoured to be able to work with so many good actors."
As for the synopsis of the film, director Emmerich spoke with Empire Online. "Independence Day II: Resurgence" will be set 20 years after the first film.
"We call it in the film the War of '96. It's like a post-World generation that's unified, and that's amazing to see a world come together with a common enemy. That's a resurgence," explained Emmerich, adding, "The world is totally rebuilt. They had alien technology and anti-gravity, so they could rebuild quite fast. Imagine what we would do with alien technology and who would have it."
The film which stars China's very own Angelababy is certainly one to look forward to.
