With Facebook's majority staff still white and makes, civil right activists are extremely disappointed that the social media giant is not able to deliver on its promise of building racial diversity in its workforce, as assured by founder Mark Zuckerberg.

According to The Guardian, Facebook's workforce is still dominated extensively by whites, which is quite the opposite of what was assured by the founder Zuckerberg to all the civil right activists. Currently, Facebook has a massive 1.4 billion users across the globe. The core purpose of building a diverse workforce was to ensure that the way of working reflects the diversity in the global user base as well.

However, on Thursday, when the company revealed its diversity reports, the results were quite shocking. As per the report, more than half of Facebook's staff in America is white. Though the Asian contributors to this work force went up by a measly two percent, the figures of the Hispanic races and black people continued to remain flat and very unimpressive.

Even in case of the senior leadership, the Facebook staff remained homogenous with more than seventy percent of its important positions held by the white people. In this case, Facebook had not given a clear break-up of the ethnicity of the employees and the position that they held. While the American Law requires the employer to fill these details in the Equal Employment Opportunity form, Facebook spokesperson admitted to not giving the information due to a lag in the documents.

Facebook also hired seven black people and it increases its total headcount by 1,231 after the last count in 2013; however, the report also shows that Facebook hired just 45 black people out of its total workforce of more than four thousand people. When compared to 2013, the headcount for black women in the workforce went by just one while that of black males went up by six. The surprising part is that for the white members in the workforce, this number went up by 695.

Meanwhile, Mercury News also points out that the figures from other tech firms like Google, Ebay, etc. are also on similar lines, clearly indicating the need of dedicated efforts in this direction.
