A wooden chalice, believed to be the one used by Jesus Christ during his Last Supper, has finally been recovered by cops after it was stolen from a Herefordshire home last year.

The artifact, measuring 10 cm by 8.5 cm, was tracked down and retrieved by the West Mercia Police and has been returned to its rightful owners.

Believed to possess healing properties, the medieval cup is considered the most precious relic in the Chirtian world. It was lent to a sick woman in the village of Weston under Penyard in Herefordshire in 2014.  Unfortunately, it was stolen from her home, while she was staying in a hospital, Sky News has learned.

Since then, a wide investigation for the Nanteos Cup's disappearance was made. An appeal for information was also made on BBC's Crimewatch while the police, along with the family who owns the chalice, offered £1,000 each as a reward for the return of the relic and the capture of the thieves.

Details regarding the recent recovery were quite limited. However, officials said that a pre-arranged meeting was set up on Friday, June 19, and it was when the chalice was handed over to authorities on "neutral ground," according to Daily Mail.

"'An anonymous source came forward after seeing the Crimewatch appeal which resulted in it being physically handed in," a police spokesman said.

Despite the recovery, no arrest was made as it was understood that the man who surrendered the chalice was not the one who stole it.

And since no thieves were seized, the police did not also pay the £1,000 reward they initially offered.

"I would like to thank everyone who helped us with our inquiries. Following the recovery of the cup, no arrests have been made and inquiries into the theft continue. However, we are very pleased it has now been returned to its rightful owners," investigating officer Det. Insp. Martyn Barnes said, The Guardian reported.

Often described by authorities as a 14th century example of a household container known as a mazer bowl crafted from wych elm, experts have previously claimed that the Nanteos Cup is not the same as Jesus Christ's Holy Grail, which is expected to be a Middle Eastern relic made of olive wood.
