In a statement made by Jiang Liangdong, the bureau's deputy director, he said "We are definitely not indulgent with the celebrities. In Beijing, the use of narcotics and illegal drugs is varied, and celebrities have been some of the many hard hit targets of these drugs.
Earlier this year, Jaycee Chan, the son of movie superstar Jackie Chan, was convicted of using illegal drugs and was sentenced to six years in prison. Singer Yan Xiangjie was also later convicted of illegal possession of drugs and was subject to seven months in prison.
Jiang commented that the drugs have ruined some of the celebrities' lives and careers, and that they should think twice before indulging in such activities.
Authorities were also doubtful on their alibis saying, the drugs have helped them enhance their acting performance as well as a way to find inspiration in the midst of their careers. Liu Yuejin, of the National Anti-Drug Commission said, "In my eyes, that is an excuse for their wrongdoing." Even those who have been appointed as anti-illegal drug ambassadors have also committed to the crime.
In a post made by CRI English, Wang Xeubing, a Chinese actor who was appointed as an anti-illegal drug ambassador was in fact, a user of the said illegal drugs. The case has sparked outrage from the community because of the incident. Authorities, however, declared that Wang's case is not isolated as many celebrities who were also appointed as ambassadors were also users of these illegal drugs.
Wang was arrested in his home along with another male actor and a magazine editor. He was caught with a 10 grams of methamphetamine, Beijing police authorities confirmed.
