Some sad news in the music world - American Idol finalist Michael Johns has passed away at the age of 35. His death was most likely caused by a blood clot.

The seventh season finalist was complaining to close friends about persistent pain in his leg before his death.

Johns' good friend Torrey Gimbill shared that his mother brought him to the emergency room on Thursday because the pain in his leg had progressed to bruising. Johns suspected that he had a blood clot because he didn't injure his leg.

Gimbill stated, "He was the most talented singer, loyal friend and genuine person you could meet. I miss him so much. It's crazy we were laughing together the day before."

Johns was one the eighth finalist of Fox's American Idol in 2008. David Cook and David Archuleta were the last two finalists of the said season.

Johns' manager took to Twitter to confirm the passing of the singer. At the moment, he had no other information to share except that Johns' family and friends are inconsolable and are asking for privacy at this difficult time.

Fellow American Idol contestants, friends and fans also took to social media to express their sadness.

American Idol sixth season finalist Melinda Doolittle wrote, "I can't express how sad I am right now. Michael Johns, rest in sweet peace, my friend."

"R.I.P our beautiful friend @michael_johns You will live in our hearts forever @AmericanIdol," model and reality star Yolanda Foster posted.

Singer Josh Groban also tweeted, "Oh no. @michael_johns has passed away. Such a wonderful guy and a great voice. Hung with him many times with @officialdfoster. Awful. RIP."

Johns released an album in 2009 entitled "Hold Back My Heart".

Last month, Johns announced to his Twitter followers that he was headed back to the studio to work on a new song called "Reckless".

In the 13-season run of the reality singing competition, Johns is the first finalist in the top 10 to have passed away.
