(Photo : Reuters) Tech giant Microsoft finally launched the full version of its Office app for Android smartphones.
A few weeks ago, tech giant Microsoft officially launched a preview of its Office app for Android smartphones. As of June 24, Office is now generally available as a full app. The programs ported to the smartphone apps include Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Microsoft Office Applications and Services Vice President Kirk Koenigsbauer had this to say about the launch: "Five weeks ago, we announced the Office for Android phone review. We are so grateful to our preview users, and with their help we were able to test the apps on over 1,900 different Android phone models in 83 countries."

According to the Microsoft Office official blog, a lot of new changes were implemented into the finished apps, thanks to feedback and suggestions from users of the preview app. For instance, users are now enabled to easily connect to third-party storage offerings like Google Drive and Box. This makes things a lot easier when working from different devices and operating systems simultaneously. Forbes also points out that taking the step towards better connectivity with Microsoft's rivals isn't typical of the tech giant. Then again, it might be for the best, seeing as users nowadays aren't just confined to a single smartphone, or even gadget for that matter.
The Microsoft Office blog says that the tech company has partnered with more than 30 global, regional, and local OEMs, including Samsung, Sony, and LG.
Forbes also said that this bold new step took place thanks to the effort of Microsoft's new CEO Satya Nadella, who has always favored cloud-based services over being a mere hardware focused provider. Nadella's vision is to provide Microsoft's services to the people whenever and wherever they might need them.
One of the biggest things about the Office for Android apps is the ability for people to review and edit documents seamlessly and effortlessly. Users no longer have to take long breaks from appointments just to scan and comment on documents.
Moreover, documents stored on desktop devices could easily be accessed and reviewed from a smartphone. It also helpfully keeps track of the latest changes made for easy perusal and work continuity.
