Bounce Imaging has been one of the latest innovations on security cameras that have emerged in the world of technology.
According to The Hoops News, Francisco Aguilar, an MIT alumnus, recently invented a bounce camera called the "Explorer" - a device that can be thrown on hard to reach areas and has a 360 view of its surroundings once they are thrown. The panoramic concept of the captured images will them be transmitted to smartphones where the investigation and more detailed viewing can be done. The camera is covered with rubber fro its own protection during impact, and is installed with cameras that will be used to capture the surroundings.

Tagged as a "tactical throwing ball," the camera is said to be worth US$1400 and transmits captured information to iOS smartphones and Android. In its primary release, the company Bounce Imaging plans to distribute 100 "Explorers" to the police department. These bounce cameras will be used as a test in its capability to capture images and see what the department's comments about the camera for further development.
While the camera was mainly developed for first responders, it grew recognition and put in demand after it won $50,000 at the 2012 Mass Challenge for taking in the grand prize. Since then, the bounce camera's main target market is the police department nationwide. On one of Aguilar's statements, he said, "With the various things we can do with its imaging process, we are keen to see more development which could largely diminish computational requirements for a range of industries developing around immersive video."
In a post by Technology Review in 2012, the idea of the bounce imaging started during the crisis in Haiti, where several locations were impassable and makes it hard for rescuers to reach hard hit areas. Although fiber optic cameras are available during that time, they were significantly more expensive and required a skilled personnel to operate it. Young, Aguilar's co-founder served in Iraq and Afghanistan and have seen the importance of bounce imaging in their tactical operations, not minding using an expensive surveillance camera just to get blown up.
