Korean technology firm Samsung has announced a new technology discovered by its scientists that will allow them to increase the battery life of their phones. Even LG has confirmed to have developed a similar option that will keep the phones working for a longer duration of time.
According to a report on The Inquirer, Samsung and LG have confirmed the development of a new technology that will help in extending the battery life of mobile phones. The report says that Samsung's Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) has developed new materials that will help in extending the battery life. For the Korean firm, LG, the development has been in the Chemicals division where the team has also revealed a hexagonal battery that will pack more power in the ordinary mobile battery.

Samsung is using silicon cathode material that is further coded with high-crystalline graphene. This coating is allowing the batteries to produce twice as much capacity as ordinary lithium-ion options. There was also a research paper published in this regard in the international science journal Nature Communication that claimed the benefits of this new technology would also include improving the efficiency of the mobile phones.
Meanwhile Son In-hyuk, a professional researcher at SAIT, also confirmed this new development at Samsung saying that the initial research has increased the capacity of the Lithium Ion batteries in a big way and also added that the company will continue exploring the concept in greater depth.
The new technology uses graphene materials instead of graphite which is a stronger, better and more conducive option. Being stronger, this material gives the battery a better density as well. On the other hand, Korea based LG is offering a more simper solution which also includes a change in the shape of the battery.
The LG team believes that the hexagonal shape will make the battery last longer by at least four days extra. However, another report on Engadget warns users against expecting the update in the upcoming S7 devices saying that it is still in the research phase and will need to be tested thoroughly before being introduced to the market.
Applications for patenting the technology have been filed in Korea, Europe and America.
