The New York Knicks are reportedly going to chase Jeremy Lin this summer as the former Harvard standout becomes an unrestricted free agent, as per Fansided.

The speculation was first tweeted Basketball Insiders' Alex Kennedy, adding that the offer is still unknown at the moment.

Presently, Derek Fisher has three point guards in his rotation, namely Jose Calderon, Langston Galloway, and Jerian Grant. Of the three, Calderon, an 11-year veteran, is the starter but is currently sidelined with a left Achilles tendon injury.

Galloway is a second-year undrafted pro who managed to be included in the 2015 NBA All-Rookie Second Team. He was the first undrafted player in Knicks' history to do so. He showed some promise last season, especially after scoring a career-high 26 points in a win over the Atlanta Hawks on 10-of-12 shooting (6-of-6 from three-point distance).

Meanwhile, Grant is the team's 19th overall pick in this year's draft. The 22-year-old Notre Dame standout was acquired through a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, who got his rights from the Washington Wizards in a separate transaction, involving Tim Hardaway Jr.

Lin, who averaged 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in a little less than 26 minutes per game last season for the Los Angeles Lakers, had his most fruitful year in New York during the 2011-2012 season.

Branded as "Linsanity," he led the Knicks' run-and-gun charge under then coach Mike D'Antoni. Lin was able to make the city alive for 26 games until he injured his left knee that required season-ending surgery.

After that, he spent the last three seasons with the Houston Rockets and the Lakers, most of the time as a substitute, but was not able to replicate the notoriety he had in New York.

Bleacher Report indicated that Lin is going to be one of the most sought-after bench players this summer. While he plays as a point guard, he is probably more effective as a shooting guard or scorer. Teams looking for a quality backup that can provide instant offense off the bench will surely call the 26-year-old floor general once free agency starts on July 1.
