Large-scale Protests Breaks out in Jiangmen City against the Government's Nuclear Materials Project

On July 12, anti-nuclear activities broke out in Jiangmen City of Guangdong Province. A large number of people paraded in the street, protesting against the government building nuclear material project in Heshan Citiy.
The Heshan nuciear fuel plant processing plant project's "social stability evaluation" publicity will be extended by ten days.
On the node one day before the scheduled publicity deadline (July 13), the People's Government of Heshan City held a media conference.
Wu Yuxiong, mayor of Heshan City, declared that the publicity would be extended by ten days, in order to ensure the public's right to know and communicate with the public further.
Recently, Jiangmen government affairs website issued an announcement planning to build the first nuclear fuel pocessing plant in the southeast coast of China in the camp industrial zone of Zhishan Town of Heshan City.
After the announcement issued since July 4th, citizens of the pearl river delta and Hong Kong and Macao sent a lot of opposition on the Internet, questioning the problems about the project's nuclear contamination, nuclear radiation and so on, and criticizing the only 10 days' publicity.
In today's press conference held by the government of Heshan City, Wu Yuxiong said "thanks to rational question sounds of friends from all walks of life, meanwhile, the publicity would be extended by ten days, in order to ensure the public's right to know and communicate with the public further.
In addition to this, the mayor also said that reporters, netizen representatives, opinion leaders, entrepreneurs and compatriots form Hong Kong and Macao would be invited to the nuclear facilities in service to understand operation and safety environmental protection conditions.
