While it may seem a good deal to Apple users, it is not on the other hand favorable to network carriers as clients can easily change network whenever they visit another country. A regular SIM card services a specific network, and the network carrier take revenue from the SIM card's roaming charges whenever the person uses it internationally.
The Apple SIM card is a general SIM card, powered by GigSky that allows the person to change network depending on the country they are. No need to buy a new SIM, no monthly tie ups and no roaming charges incurred. Short term data plans are also available in order to maximize the use of Apple products during travel. The Apple SIM is available in Apple's retail stores in Europe, South America, Africa, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and other participating countries.
In an announcement made by GigSky, they assured their customers of a more convenient way of acquiring a WiFi connectivity using the Apple SIM, without fearing for excessive and high data roaming charges on their next bill. Once you arrive at your destination, you can choose GigSky to connect to a local network and start accessing the internet.
The data rates that may be charged on your bill depends on the local rate of the country you are in. For instance, comparative territorial prices in Puerto Rico Vs Canada shows lower charges in Puerto Rico, stating, "plans for Puerto Rico include 40MB/3 days ($10), 200MB/7 days ($25), 400MB/14 days ($35), and 1GB/30 days ($50), while data packages are markedly lower (20MB/80MB/120MB/250MB) for the same prices and durations in Canada" according to Mac.
Other countries included in the expansion will also show different rates and charges on the data charges incurred.
