14 separate wildfires rage on in California as two in particular, burning just 8 miles apart, became the focus of firefighters after the flames destroyed eight homes and prompted the evacuation of a hospital in the northeastern region of the state.
The two fires started within a day of one another and had managed to burn through 95 square miles of land by Sunday evening, reports state.

The town of Burney was seen directly threatened by the more destructive of the two wildfires, prompting officials to begin the evacuation of Mayer Memorial Hospital, a healthcare facility for patients with dementia or other medical conditions which require skilled nursing.
The rest of the town was put on evacuation watch although authorities state that due to the sparse population in the area it will be difficult to assess quickly how many residents have been affected by the fatal flames.
The two are only a couple out of over a dozen fires which have broken out across California.
Saturday, as federal and state firefighters worked around the clock to stave off the flames, Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency due to the alarming nature of the wildfires.
According to reports, three of the fires were sparked by lightning while others crossed over into the state after starting in Oregon.
The situation is further instigated by the prolonged drought California has seen over the last year. Earlier this year, several communities experienced shortages of drinking water, causing some regions to impose strict water rationing laws.
Firefighters in the area are receiving help from the Air National Guard and air support has helped to curb and control some of the fires although the majority of them still pose some type of threat.
146th Airlift Wing pilot Lt. Col. Bill Willson stated that this is "a predictable fire season," but warned that mother nature is always unpredictable and the tide could turn at any time.
