With an attempt to make an impression on the red carpet, Chinese actress Tiffany Tang was left red-faced after discovering that she was wearing a knock-off Ellie Saab gown.
Tiffany Tang, who is also known as Tan Yan, was left embarrassed after it was found out that she was wearing a counterfeit high-end gown during a red carpet event in Shanghai recently. The actress wore a blue knock-off Ellie Saab gown during the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival.

According to the website Thee Poch Times, representatives from the luxury brand saw media reports and photos from the event and informed the management of Tang about the fashion mishap.
"The incident highlights the troubles with counterfeiting in China, where you can pay top dollar and still end up with a fake," the website reported.
The Chinese actress reportedly blamed the team who were hired to organize and pick her dress for the film event. But looking back in 2013, Tang made another fashion faux pas when she wore another fake Ellie Saab gown at another public and high-profile event.
Although it is said that imitation is the highest form of flattery, this kind of incident will not go unnoticed when you have the rest of the world as your audience. Tang is a well-known actress who rose to fame thanks to her roles in Chinese dramas. Back in 2007, she was nominated for the White Magnolia Award for Best Actress for her role in the movie "Farewell for Love."
In an article by Albawaba, Tiffany Tang is included in the growing list of actresses in China that were photographed wearing counterfeit gowns. Other actresses like Crystal Liu, Liu Shi Shi and Deng Jiajia have all been embarrassed due to the same fashion mistake.
It would be difficult for designers like Ellie Saab to protect their creations, but their strategy in naming and shaming celebrities who wear copycats might be a solution.
Asia One News reported and covered the Shanghai Film Festival, which was held over the weekend. They showcased a gallery full of actors and actresses in attendance including Tiffany Tang.
