Upon issuing the warrant for her arrest, authorities warned the public that Smith was considered armed and dangerous.

Following the release of this information, the FBI, US Marshals, and other law enforcement agencies from other states collaborated to launch an intensive search operations.

Hours after issuing a warrant for her arrest, the Coast Guard, which provided air searches, spotted the suspect on a logging road.

Cannon Beach Police Chief Jason Schermehorn disclosed that Smith will be charged for both crimes on Monday.

Schermerhorn also clarified that Smith was the sole suspect for the crimes. He belied speculations that the children's father, Greg Smith, was part of the incident.

The girls' father filed for a divorce in June. His lawyer divulged that Greg was recently granted visitation rights following a judge-ordered psychological evaluation of Jessica.

Greg disclosed that his request for the mental evaluation of his estranged wife was rooted from the disturbing messages he received from her.

Police have no record on the suspect's alleged psychological issues.

A housekeeper found both girls inside their rented room at the Surfsand Resort at roughly 9:40 a.m. on Friday. While the younger daughter Isabella Smith was pronounced dead, her older sister Alana Smith was said to have fatal cut wounds.

Police believe that the surviving daughter was a victim of attempted homicide.

At present, Alana is in the protective custody of the police. She has already gone through surgery and confirmed to be in a stable condition. She is currently confined at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

On the other hand, an autopsy on the two-year-old failed to determine her cause of death. No signs of physical abuse were found.

However, Schermerhorn confirmed that the manner of death was homicide. Investigators are still awaiting results of the toxicology reports.

"It's hard to know with a child that size," explained Schermerhorn. "They need to await a toxicology report," the police chief added.
