Matt Damon debuted his new look and shocked the press and his admirers at the press conference of his upcoming film "The Great Wall" in Beijing.

The 44-year-old actor turned up at the film's press conference with a new do, and his ponytail is not the Leonardo DiCaprio man bun kind either. The "Interstellar" star's golden locks appears to have grown past his shoulders, even if it is pulled back into a mid-ponytail.

One of China's most beloved actors in Hollywood, Damon was dressed in blue and green plaid top. He paired the unbuttoned shirt with blue jeans, looking every bit as the laid-back actor that his fans love.

During "The Great Wall" press conference that sort of premiered Matt Damon's ponytail, the 44-year-old was joined by co-stars Andy Lau, Jing Tian, Zhang Yimou, and "Game of Thrones" actor Pedro Pascal.

Despite Matt Damon's ponytail shocking the media, the actor appeared to be in high spirits.

In the American-Chinese sci-fi action film set in 15th century China, Damon plays a mercenary searching for treasure.

In recent months, "The Great Wall" cast have been busy with filming, going on 28 different sets. The sets include a fake Great Wall used as a weapon in the movie against unearthly beings, according to The Daily Mail.

At the press brief, Damon was asked about the language barrier since the film is full of Chinese actors.

"It's the same discipline and it moves across cultures and languages pretty easily," Damon said.

"The Great Wall" has become one of the highest-budgeted films in China. To date, it is considered the biggest America-China co-production, raising expectations of a big box-office hit. Being an official co-production, the film will reportedly be treated as a domestic film, bypassing import restrictions in China that limit foreign movies, thus creating a bigger share on China's film market.

Budgeted at $150 million, "The Great Wall" is the first made by Legendary Entertainment's Chinese offshoot Legendary East in partnership with Hollywood's Universal Pictures, China Film Co. Ltd. and Le Vision Pictures, according to the Associated Press.

It is set for release next year, reported news.com.au.
