July 14^th, Huazhong Agricultural University carried out an activity on tasting GM rice voluntarily in Beijing. Rice experts want to title GM rice as a safe genetically modified food. These experts expresses their opinion on genetic engineering, it has been confirmed that genetically modified foods are safe to human beings. According to the organizer of the event, since May of 2013, they have held more than 22 such activities in many cities of China. There are more than a thousand volunteers who have taken part in the activity.

In yesterday's tasting party, the sponsor made GM rice into sushi. Chen Junshi, an expert from Chinese Academy of Engineering, tasted the food with the reporters present. An editor of Beijing Science and Technology newspaper said the tasting party was more like a "Performance Art" instead of an experiment.

A Chinese netizen "onlysunset" is a supporter of genetically modified food. She took part in the activity yesterday. She understands so far there are still lots of people in China who can't accept genetically modified food. So together with more than a dozen supporters, they carry out activities on tasting GM rice spontaneously. And they have recruited more than a thousand volunteers through Internet to participate in the tasting parties, which will be held in Beijing, Shanghai and other 20 cities of China.

According to Chen Junshi, an expert of Chinese Academy of Engineering, gene is everywhere. GM isn't so terrible, and GM isn't that rare. For example, hybrid rice that was developed by Yuan Longping is also a kind of GM food. 

"GM crop is a trend on agriculture." Chen Junshi said. There is no reason to say GM crop is unsafe. Consumers always wish to hear some food is absolutely safe. However, this is impossible. "As a scientist, there is no evidence that genetically modified crops are harmful to human being's health so far. Then, it means the GM food is safe."
