A MacRumor report suggested that Apple's next generation smartphone will be unveiled on Sept. 16 and will hit retailers on Oct. 14.

There have been numerous leaks that hint that Apple will reveal its new iPhone 6 in September, according to numerous reports over the past few months.

Oct. 14, which is a Tuesday, does not seem like a likely launch date as Apple has a habit of launching its newest devices on Fridays, according to the Apple Insider.

The long difference between the public announcement of the product and the launch of the device is questionable as Apple has a habit of releasing devices just a week after  every unveiling.

Analysts from Trendforce, a market research firm, reported that production lines have not increased their demand for sapphire glass. The lack of demand suggested that Apple isn't getting ready for the rumored unveiling in September.

Sapphire glass is currently being used on the latest iPhone generation for its fingerprint readers and camera lenses. If the new iPhone intends to use the same features, demand for the material will be driven by the device's applications until the end of the year, according to the Christian Post.

Analysts said sapphire cover glass remains missing from the picture. They  noted that analysis of the iPhone 6 supply chain shows that related component suppliers had to ship products to OEMs for assembly in June to meet the September launch date.

They haven't been able to discover demand for smartphone cover glass.

The quantity of raw materials for sapphire glass has been lower than expected. The lower quantity produced is due to issues involved in processing sapphire glass.
