Dirk Frickman, the woman's husband, said that the dolphin was trying to do a flip, but it miscalculated, causing it to land on the boat where his family are spending their wedding anniversary and Father's Day celebration at the same time. Unfortunately, the moment the dolphin landed on the boat, his wife, Chrissie got hit and broke her ankle.

The dolphin, weighing about 159 kilograms ( 350 pounds), panicked because of its unfamiliar environment. It even got trapped in between the chairs and it failed to escape on its own. It flail around and injured itself, causing cuts on its nose and tail. At one point, it punched Mrs Frickman's daughter in the face.

Frickman said, "It's one of those things where it's all attractive, but you have to remember it's still kind of wild," he added that, "Blood started splattering everywhere." He then radioed the Sheriff Department Harbor Patrol as he headed back to Dana Point Harbor in Orange County, Thrasher Backer has learned.

When the harbor patrolman arrived, he gave Frickman a bucket of water to splash on the dolphin, which was too heavy to push back overboard.

Frickman said in an interview with the Orange County Register, "I could hear my phone buzzing and beeping on the floor, it was covered in blood."

For the dolphin to get back into the water, two people helped Mr Frickman by getting a rope around its neck and return the animal back to the water. The wounded then dolphin swam away. He added, "It swam away with no problem."

"It's one of those things where it's all so beautiful, but you have to remember it's still kind of wild. Maybe you want to stay a bit farther away," he finally said, as per Yahoo! News UK & ireland

Harbor Patrol Sgt. DJ Haldeman, who confirmed the incident, said, "I don't know what was in the water, but something must have scared it out."

Chrissie, Dirk Frickman's wife, is still wheelchair-bound for now, recovering from the two broken ankles caused by the dolphin when it jumped out of the water and landed into their boat. She said the she was "scared for the dolphin" when it landed on the boat, and she was "scared for her kids." She noted in an interview that she was not the only one traumatized after the incident, but also the sea creature.
