Big Mac and Spicy McWings will be back on the menu at some McDonald's branches in China, weeks after the company was forced to stop selling its full menu due to food safety issues involving a key meat supplier.

Chinese customers in Beijing and Guangzhou will be able to buy all food items on the menu later this week, while menus in Shanghai will be back to normal within the month, a McDonald's spokeswoman said.

She said that some of McDonald's branches had also resumed offering full menus, but declined to give more details about the exact date or number of cities.

The fast food company, which has over 2,000 branches in China, withdrew pork, beef and chicken items from its restaurants in the country last month, after a local television report triggered investigations into the meat safety violations committed by Shanghai Husi Food Corp., McDonald's meat supplier.

The country's international companies are put to higher standards as Chinese consumers mature and become more discerning with their purchases, said Sam Park, strategist in a Shanghai-based business school.

He added that the government is also stricter now in monitoring businesses in China, which means that violations could be more easily detected.

China is McDonald's third-largest market by outlets and the company is keeping its efforts to resume normal process, the  company spokeswoman said.

She said that the company is doing a "very stringent inspection" to make sure that its food products meet the government's requirement and McDonald's standards.

In Hong Kong, McDonald's restaurants started offering back burgers like Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, McChicken and Grilled Chicken Burger on Monday. The company also started directly importing lettuce and onions from Taiwan and U.S for some of its food items.

However, Chicken McNuggets and items like fresh corn cups, green salad and fresh lemon tea, whose ingredients were originally sourced from Shanghai Husi Food branches in Guangzhou and Hebei, are still unavailable.

McDonald's is recently increasing orders from McKey Food Services Ltd., the company's existing meat supplier in Shenzen, to handle ingredient shortages, according to the Hong Kong chain.

It is also in the process of exploring and evaluating new Chinese suppliers for meat products.
