The month of July has kicked in, and it means one thing for many provinces in China--extremely hot climate. To fend off the hazardous effects of heat, locals conduct various activities that are fun and refreshing for everyone.

In the city of Xi'an in Shaanxi province of Central China, more than 4,000 people participated in the 5k Bubble Run, People's Daily Online reported. Dubbed as "the most fun 5k run in the world," the event saw young and old locals join the sudsy event. It was also an opportunity for men and women with shapely bodies to flaunt their physique in trunks and two-piece swimsuits. Participants dug into the bubbles and smothered each other with colored foam.

The concept reportedly originated from the United States and adopted in China as a measure to cool off in summer. A non-competitive activity, the event has been held in several states in America, in the United Kingdom, and in Japan.

Meanwhile, in the city of Wuhan in Hubei province, locals played a tag game in what appeared to be a huge bubble bath tub at a water park. In the photos captured by ECNS, participants are attempting to get the green balloon tied on each other's waist as they ran around the suds. The players are in their swimsuits and tagged with a number on their forearms.

The two cities are just few of the hottest areas listed in China. Known as "furnace cities," these places have the reputation of registering the highest temperature in the country on the months of July and August. Chinese climatologists have listed the top 10 as cities as Chongqing (average 34 degrees Celsius in August); Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Changsha, and Wuhan (average 34 degrees Celsius in July); Nanchang (average 33 degrees Celsius in July); Xi'an (average 32 degrees Celsius in July); Nanjing, Hefei, and Nanning (average 33 degrees Celsius in August), China Highlights cited.

In 2013, China released an updated list and reduced the list to four cities: Fuzhou, Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Nanjing, CNTV reported.
