A contentious notice about women getting pregnant in a certain company in China went viral, citizens, mostly internet users, start to question the legality of the issue.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Jiaozuo city credit cooperative only allows their married women employees to get pregnant a year after they get hired. The pregnancy plans should also be applied and scheduled in order to eliminate conflicts on the work schedules as opposed to the difficulty of pregnancies. Apparently, it is said that the company does not tolerate work delays caused by pregnancy issues.

The notice stated that the birth plan of an employee has been formulated and established by the company, therefore it should be strictly enforced. Employees who fail to follow the schedule, and whose work is affected by an untimely pregnancy, will be fined 1,000 Yuan and will lose any opportunity of getting promoted. There is also the threat of their year-end bonuses getting delayed because of it. While the notice has been making rounds on the internet, an official from Jiaozuo company downplayed the incident, saying, it is only a draft and is still subject to revisions in case any female employee objects.
He also added that due to the various number of women working for the company, they drafted the notice so they can avoid manpower shortage in case most of them get pregnant at the same time. The one child policy in China has slowly come to terms with its past and re-entering a new era of transformation because of China's aging locals. Several laws during the Mao era, such as getting the approval of employers when getting divorced, married or pregnant has long been put an end, making the Jiaozuo notice climb the limelight because of its strict rules.
The Dahe News published the said notice online and citizens were not shy about giving their comments to the said law. One commented that while the law is a bit harsh to its employees, the truth about it being the unwritten rule in several companies in China still stands to this time.
