It was predicted to be the match of the day - two legends on the Centre Court of Wimbledon, hoping to rewrite history - but it didn't take long before the curtain closed. All it took Serena Williams was an hour and eight minutes to beat her sister Venus in the 4th round of the Wimbledon Championships. The world no. 1 easily dismantled the elder Williams with a score of 6-4 6-3, keeping her Grand Slam history bid alive.

There was hope for Venus who came into the match with good wins in the early rounds. She also defeated Serena the last time they met, but what transpired was no repeat of their epic three-set battle in Montreal last year.

Serena drew first blood in the first set, breaking her sister to take the lead at 1-0. Venus regained her composure and broke back on the fourth game to level the match. But an unforced error on Venus' serve immediately put Serena up 3-2. From then on, the younger Williams held her serve to take the first set, capping it off with three aces.

The second set was fairly even until the seventh game when Venus served a double-fault to give Serena the upper hand. At 5-3 and serving to stay in the match, Venus committed another double-fault, giving her sister three match points and eventually the match when a backhand went long.

There was no celebration or a show of emotions when the match ended. It was simply a bittersweet moment when both sisters hugged each other at the net and walked off the court together.

"It's hard to feel excited about (beating) someone you root for all the time no matter what and who you love so much and she's your best friend in the world," Serena said as reported by the Huffington Post. "It's never easy but you just play for the competition and enjoy the moment."

The match is the sisters' 26th encounter with Serena leading 15-11. It also marks their first meeting at a grand slam since the 2009 Wimbledon finals which Serena took. As for when their next encounter may happen, no one knows. Both are now in their 30s and such occasion may soon become rare.

"It definitely doesn't get any easier," said Serena as quoted by BBC. "I thought, 'I'm 33 and she's 35, I don't know how many more moments like this you're going to have."
