Syracuse University officials expressed their extreme disappointment with the party ratings. Officials said they spent a lot of effort creating an excellent academic environment dedicated to learning. They refuse to be recognized as a party school. In addition, officials refute the credibility of the survey, pointing out that it was based on interviews made in 2012.

The Princeton Review party school analysis is an annual affair. The survey ranks schools based on more than 60 sets of criteria. These factors include top school food, science programs, and career planning along with party-related categories.

Survey results revealed that Cal Tech led the nation in the field of science according to approximately 130,000 students at the nation's top 379 universities and colleges.

Virginia Tech was ranked the best with respect to campus menu options while Northeastern University at Boston had the top career planning department.

When it came to partying, however, traditional party schools, such as the University of California-Santa Barbara finished third, followed by the University of West Virginia and University of Illinois. Lead researcher for the study, Robert Franek, said colleges had different strengths and weaknesses. The guide released by the review board served as an important tool for students and parents looking for the right fit, even when it comes to celebration as opposed to education.

While the party aspect caused a lot of buzz on Monday, students and parents wanting a more sober campus could take heart as well. Princeton Review found Brigham Young University, a Mormon Church-run school in Provo, Utah, took the top spot for taking the buzz off campus and keeping students clean and sober.
