Behind every fairy tale princess is a prince charming whose affection is almost always his only contribution to the story. With the proliferation of live-action movies based on the misfortune and the redemption of happily ever after for these damsels, one film that finally centers on the life of the dutiful Prince Charming is certainly a breath of fresh air.

On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter was first to feature Disney's acquisition of the project. The move to take on Prince Charming's tale was the studio's follow through with its own trend of adapting fairy tale stories into live-action movies. Among Disney's successful enterprises include "Cinderella," "Maleficent," and the upcoming "Beauty and the Beast."

While it is yet to be revealed if the character will undergo a modern makeover, Variety's sources point to the probability that the story will not be told in the prince's point of view. Instead, the narrative will take off on the circumstances of his brother whose reputation is adverse to the family name.

Variety further reported that the movie will be a comic re-imagining of the stock character as a concept. Cinema Blend explored the many possibilities of the plot: from the probability of having many Prince Charming to one Casanova sweeping every princess of her feet.

In charge of the script is Matt Fogel, who worked as an assistant to Phil Lord and Chris Miller in "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." He was also responsible for the most recent draft of Disney's "Bob: The Musical," with Tom Cruise as a top contender for the lead role. Mandeville Films, in the person of David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, will produce the adaptation with Tripp Vinson, The Hollywood Reporter cited.

Apart from the live-action spin-off on Prince Charming, Disney is also tapping into several others in its collection of children's stories. "Pinocchio," "Mulan," and a second installment of "Maleficent" are already in the works, Cinema Blend noted. Also included in the studio's exciting lineup is "Peter Pan" with Tinkerbell as the central character. Actress Reese Witherspoon is reportedly taking on the role of the thumb-sized fairy.
