Despite the freak injury of Paul George during a Team USA scrimmage last week, the NBA players of the Team USA pool have vowed to continue pushing for their inclusion to the final 12-man roster who would compete in the upcoming FIBA World Championships in Spain.

Sources told ESPN.com that the players were discussing if they should stay with the team in light of what happened to George, who broke his leg during practice.

Supporting the All-Star forward, however, remained the highest priority for the pool, which was a major factor for the players to stay with the team.

"No one on this team wants to walk away because that would seem unfair to Paul," said an NBA general manager who has a player participating in the squad. He declined to be identified.

Team coach Mike Krzyzewski and USA Basketball chair Jerry Colangelo were supposed to reduce the number of players Saturday before the accident.

The team's practice will resume on Aug. 13 in Chicago.

U.S. basketball officials are considering up to 16 players to bring to Spain. The final 12-man lineup must be submitted to FIBA on the eve of the tournament's opening day on Aug. 30.

George had been widely considered to be a part of the squad along with Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, James Harden, Steph Curry and Anthony Davis.

In a radio interview, Team USA assistant coach Jim Boeheim said he has never been in a situation that involves a player going down hard.

"This is a very, very difficult thing," Boeheim said.

Boeheim added that the team will take a few days to get "back together."
