Amidst the thick anticipation of Star Wars fans for "The Force Awakens," news of another Star Wars spinoff has been announced, specifically about Han Solo.
Disney, the studio who bought the Star Wars rights from George Lucas, announced last Tuesday, with plans to release the movie by 2018. The Herald Sun reports that the movie will tell the story of a young Han solo and how the well-loved character became a smuggler and a thief. The "Solo" movie will be one in a long list of spin off movies from the Star Wars franchise, which will follow the other spin off "Rogue One" slated to be released next year.

As if announcing the idea was not enough, Entertain This! reports that Disney is getting directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to helm the movie. Lord and Miller are the brilliant directors of "The Lego Movie," a movie about building blocks that became a blockbuster hit, as well as the movie adaptation of an 80's TV show, "21 Jump Street." The pair also released a statement, stating that making a Star Wars movie is a dream come true, and they promise to stay faithful to the characters.
Given that this is a Han Solo movie, there's still no news about Harrison Ford donning the iconic black vest for the prequels, but he is reprising his role for the upcoming trilogy which will start with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." However, Reuters did report that the writer for "The Force Awakens," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi" will return to pen the screenplay for the spinoff, along with his son, Jon Kasdan.
Disney is really amping up their line of movies, given that they already have the Marvel movies lined up and the slow but sure rebooting of their Disney Princesses, other studios will have a hard time with the entertainment industry. By pushing their Star Wars line, they are solidifying their advantage in the movie industry and these plans are but the start of something great.
